1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and improve your experience. JOOVE also uses browser local storage, which works similarly but stores data locally without a server expiry.
2. Cookies We Use
We use the following categories of cookies and storage:
Essential Cookies (always active)
Required for the platform to function. Cannot be disabled.
- Supabase Auth — session token stored in localStorage to keep you logged in.
- Theme preference — light/dark mode setting stored in localStorage.
- Map filter state — your last-used map filters stored in sessionStorage.
- Cookie consent — records whether you have accepted or declined optional cookies (localStorage key:
joove_cookie_consent).
Analytics Cookies (optional — requires consent)
Help us understand how the platform is used so we can improve it. All data is anonymised — we cannot identify individual users from analytics data.
- PostHog — product analytics (page views, feature usage, session replays). Data stored on PostHog EU servers. See PostHog Privacy Policy.
Advertising Cookies (optional — requires consent)
Used to display relevant advertisements. JOOVE uses Google AdSense to display contextual ads that help fund the free tier of the platform.
- Google AdSense — sets cookies to serve personalised or contextual ads. See Google Ads Privacy.
If you decline advertising cookies, JOOVE will attempt to serve non-personalised contextual ads based on page content only.
Functional Cookies (always active — embedded services)
- Sentry — error tracking. Stores a session ID to correlate error reports (no personal data beyond IP). See Sentry Privacy.
- Stripe — payment processing. Sets cookies required for secure checkout. Only active when you access the pricing or checkout pages.
3. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You can manage your preferences in the following ways:
- Cookie banner:When you first visit JOOVE, a banner gives you the option to accept or decline optional cookies. You can change this preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for joove.app.
- Browser settings: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies may prevent login and other core features from working.
- Google Ad settings: Opt out of Google personalised ads at adssettings.google.com.
4. Data Retention
Most cookies set by JOOVE expire when you close your browser (session cookies) or after 30 days (persistent cookies). Your consent preference is stored indefinitely in localStorage until you clear it manually or withdraw consent.
